Hi Godzilla,

This is the standard question when you want to know the name of the person calling (ringing up/telephoning).

difference vs different #3 (permalink) Wed Mar 04, 2009 15:19 pm   difference vs different

Good morning Torsten, I did that test that you sent me "On the phone" and got all of then right.
I still don't know the difference between "difference" and "different".
Also can you explain to me when do I use this conjunction/preposition "than" and the adverb "then". I am getting better in my English, but as you can see I still have little holes in my head. Another word that I am confuse is on how to use "use" and used".

Thanks to all of you for you help.

Hi Ara,

If you check your dictionary you will find that 'difference' is a noun while 'different' is an adjective. Used is the simple past or past participle of the verb use. As for than and then, simply read English texts to see how those words are used in context. Here is an example: How to use 'than'?

Thanks,
Torsten

What tense does the word "Today" follow? Today can be from morning till sunset and when we are referring to a time whichis over it can be in the past. Can we mix tenses?

Dear Torsten,

Thanks for your letter. I am always looking forward to it.I would like immediately to deal with it but something always comes up.My biggest enemy the chore. I know what I have to do at home,/ shopping, cooking ,cleaning etc/ this is no problem, I do them willingly I used to do them. But when I believe I am ready and I want to learn English I find some new chores what I have to do.When this happens I became impatient and I say to myself this is incredible.
At last when I can sit down at my laptop, I enjoy the exercises, I read the letters, I click to the references I read them and if there is possibility I am listening to them.Anyway I like surfing on the Forum.

About my test:I had nine good answers in my test at the first attempt.Unfortunately I didn't know the phrase: Who's calling please? and I wrote: Who's speaking, please?

I would be very interested in this subforum. Is this work? If yes I would like join it. I would like to send short essays or stories and it would be very good if somebody corrects them. I wrote to you some letters and when I pressed the "send" button I found in it some mistakes in spite of the fact that I read it several times.

Again thank you everything.

Hi Torsten,

I got 7 answers out of 10 correct. I don't find a link called "Do you have a question?" which was mentioned your e-mail of lesson number 8.

Hi Oilbusiness,

Do you mean an absence note/sick note: a note to explain why she has not been in school?
