Some people prefer to play team sports, while others prefer to play individual sports. Discuss the advantages of each. Then indicate which you prefer and why.

I have played very different sports in my life. For two years I played football in Cagliari’s football club. Afterwards, I rode horses in showjumping competitions for seven years. Thirdly, I’ve played in a rugby team and, during the same period, I’ve been involved in car competitions. Some of these sports are individual, others are team sports. There are huge differences between them but, I prefer to play individual sports.

The first difference between individual sports and team sports regards responsibility. While in team sports the responsibility is divided between the members of the team, in individual sports it isn’t. Therefore, in a team sport, the result of a match is due to all members contribution. For example, Italy’s victory in world cup football final in 2006 was the result of an excellent way of playing football of all members. In that case, it was a victory shared by the members. In an individual sport, the player has all the responsibilities to achieve a good result. So if he fails, anyone else will be guilty for the bad result. For example, in formula one competitions, each car is driven by one driver. So an accident or a victory is the result of his way of driving.

Responsibility is not the only gap between an individual sport or a team one. There is also a difference concerning independence. While in team sports, a player must play under the conditions decided by the coach, in individual sports the player is independent. Consequently, all the members of a team must cooperate to achieve a common goal. For example, to win a football match, a team has to play following the right directions and schemes decided by the coach. If a player doesn’t behave under this conditions, the coach will substitute him with another player. In contrast of a team sports, in individual sports the player is competing against other competitors. Therefore he can decide independently how to play. For example, a car driver can decide if overtake a competitor or not.

In summary, the responsibility and the independence are the main differences between individual and team sports. While in team sports the responsibility is shared and there is not independence, in individual sports a player his the only responsible one and the only person who decides. Basing my opinion on these differences, I prefer to play individual sports because I can decide which strategy to use and I am the only responsible, so I can’t be affected by the bad way of playing of other members.

David, I have yet to meet anyone who achieved thirty, but if anyone can get even close to it Goku can. I would suggest you read his work. It is outstanding. Mrs, Saqib (Kulsoom) too is very good.

So, thank you for all your advices. I will have my toefl exam on 23rd of July. I have to get a score of at least 100. It will be my last chance to sit it. I've already sit it two times but with only scores of 89 and 86.. I don't know how to get the best from this exam.. I' m much worried about it.
