yes modern language tends to change and makes learning english language less difficult |

To 'Chance one's arm' means to try something which has an element of risk involved. This is of military origin. Badges of rank, such as stripes, are worn on the arm. If the wearer offends against Military regulations then there is a risk of being demoted - they might lose the right to wear some or all of the stripes on their arm - hence risking action which, if caught, would mean such a punishment means the officers are 'chancing (losing some of the stripes on) their arm' through demotion.[/quote] |
