SHOULD A CITY PRESERVE OR DETROY ITS HISTORIC BUILDINGS?

Few days back I visited capital of my country, New Delhi, I was fascinated as I had experienced the old buildings like Red Fort, Qutub Minar, etc where kings of various past times had fought battles against invaders and fight of independence against British people were echoed by walls of the fort’s itself . It‘s structure was most suited to ambush and counterattack, which tells about the fighting techniques used at that time. I would really welcome the thought of preserving Historic buildings of a city and I don’t see any incentive to destroy them, despite the claim that they can be destroyed and such places can be used to make new fashioned buildings and malls. I see old buildings as a mark of heritage, showcase of gothic architecture and also a tourist attraction.

First of all, old buildings are storehouse of antique monuments and are viewed as a mark of heritage which our ancestors have left behind. Old buildings should be preserved so that we can commemorate our ancestors and the way they lived. It’s a kind of moral duty for us to preserve the buildings which are remnants of our forefather’s. Also various facts about history are more substantiated when visits of such old buildings happens to us. Like after visiting Pink City, Jaipur in India and exploring numerous Mahal’s or mansions of kings in the city, would make natives understand the way those kings lived and contemporary culture would be revealed itself by their antiquated monuments displayed in the spacious halls. The preserved appliances in Kitchen would intimate us the style of cooking and serving used past times. It would make Indian’s proud of their heritage and culture. Also, it would make feel more linked to past and heritage like old building’s which are a source of inspiration to preserve the heritage itself.

Secondly, the art of ancient architecture is preserved in old buildings. For Example, Few years back, I went Rome and visited the Old buildings, it inculcated me the fine and gothic architecture that prevailed in old times. The bricks and wood used were so glossy and fine that it had survived for hundreds years by just bits of maintenance. Moreover those buildings are so sophisticated that even with today’s modern technology we can’t manage to replicate them. As someone has wisely said “Old is Gold” .This quote is true, Old buildings are loaded with beautiful architecture and material’s. It’s a great attraction for the aesthetics and historian’s who appreciate and admire the old style of making buildings. If old buildings are preserved, than there would be no necessity to make museums and spend mammoth amount to preserve of old monuments and antics as old buildings are excellent showcases of ancient monuments and gothic architecture.

Moreover, Old buildings are great tourist attraction. Who would not like to visit Buckingam Palace after going to London? In fact a handsome amount of revenue is generated from tourists on such sites, this can be exploited further with just good means of administration and spending substantial amount on them for time to time renovation. Many old buildings are dilapidated due to political interference and Personal gains .In fact old buildings should be refurbished to places like Hotels, Marriage palace so that there antiquity is preserved and revenue could be generated ,in spite of destroying them. Also for a old city, old buildings are incessant attractions for tourists which would tempt the foreigners and visitors to visit them and hence a great advantage for city and natives.

With the above illustrations, it’s clear that old buildings are remnants of heritage, Have gothic architecture and a great tourist attraction which would serve as a source of money for administration, therefore they should be preserved

An interesting subject Sumantgrover which at times escaped me, but it was well covered in your essay. refrain from using contractions in you work, and avoid using a conjunction when starting a paragraph.

Good work. Kitos. 8/10
