Humans have an insatiable appetite for acquiring latest knowledge regarding any field, whether it be technology, economy, astronomy et al. Since, man is a social animal, so it becomes necessary for him to acquaint himself, with latest news of his society or economy. This incurs the need of televising the government policies and proceedings.
The cardinal reason for televising government proceedings is that, it enables the denizens of a country to assess and appraise the economy. In a democratic country, it becomes necessary for the government to be clear and open to all the citizens. "Democracy is the government of the people, by the people, for the people”, an aphorism stated by Abraham Lincoln clearly indicates, that a democratic government which is formed by the people, has to work for welfare of the people. Thus, it behoves the government to telecast all its proceedings and policies.
Citing an example to bolster the above stated facts, televising the annual budget, at the onset of a fiscal year, help the citizens of a country, to know the latest price of commodities. Also, people get well conversant with latest tax reforms and investments made by the government in various sectors. Thus, people can estimate rate of flow of money in the economy, which further helps them to anticipate economic growth and development rate. Furthermore, televising government policies helps a person to ascertain, import and export exchange rates, inflation rate and rate of recovery. In addition to this, people can present their viewpoints, which can further improve the economic growth rate. Additionally, televising government policies is of great help to the people, who invest in government shares and ventures. If a person is well acquainted with the rates of government shares and debentures, he can invest his money judiciously, and draw out a huge amount of profits. Also, televising government proceedings, makes people aware about recently undertaken projects and laws.
Furthermore, while televising its proceedings, the government has to present details of money transfer and money flow, which reduces chances of corruption, forgery, embezzlement and hence, stops the flow of black money. Thus, one can infer that, televising government proceedings, provides a comprehensive overview of the economy of a nation.
In spite of the above stated facts, government may be reluctant to televise certain proceedings and expenditures e.g. military expenses. This is done intentionally, because revealing arcane and confidential data about the military, can pose a great threat to nation's security. But, government should televise most of its proceedings, as it offers a great help in estimating economic growth rate, inflation rate, bank rate etc. Also, government's reluctant attitude towards televising its proceedings can sometimes cause chagrin amongst people, which can further serve as an impetus, to situations of insurgency and exigency.
Hence, in summary, the government must telecast latest proceedings and policies, which can help the citizens to assess their national economy. Since, reluctance of the government can sometimes become a contentious issue, so the benefit always lies in televising the government proceedings.
