Topic: “Should children start learning a foreign language early?”

In a world of globalization, many parents increasingly expect their children to be proficient in use foreign languages. This can only be attained if children become familiar with foreign languages at a relatively early stage in their life. Teaching a second language to children early has been hotly debated for long by parents as well as education professionals in many countries of the world. In my opinion, I believe that children should not have bilingual education because of several reasons.

On the one hand, some parents want their kids to begin learning a second language as soon as possible. They consider that the earlier their children study foreign language, the better their brain develop. However, it is totally mistaken about development of childhood. According to educational experts, the latest age that can still be regarded as optimal for children to undertake foreign language acquisition is the age of nine. At this age, children can handle new linguistic information with a great deal of efficiency and simultaneously maintain the versatility needed to acquire further languages. Besides, receiving new language soon can become unnecessary burden on children. This can restrict natural development of incomplete brains; even cause the unpredictable consequences. Therefore, children should not learn a second language until they have steady brain.

Other parents agree with bilingual education for their children early because children can enhance sophisticated thinking faculties and new environmental adaptabilities. In contrast, this can bring about unhelpful effects on children thinking. It is difficult for them to distinguish what their mother languages as well as their mother culture are. There is no point until the child has fully mastered its mother tongue. Understanding the mother language and culture are very significant for children to form the spiritual value and racial consciousness. For example, children learn a second language soon and just use only that language to communicate with friends or others. Consequently, they may forget how to use their mother language.

In conclusion, teaching foreign language will become useful when students have developed enough metal and physical. Parents should not accept to their kids too early because of negative effects on them.
