Duong Viet Le Ngoc Tan Nowadays, a highly controversial among countries is the rights and wrongs of euthanasia. Euthanasia, which means the bringing about of a gentle and easy death in the case of an incurable and painful disease, is just legalized in some nations such as Holland and United State. I think euthanasia should be permitted all over the world for several reasons. The main reason why euthanasia should be authorized is that it can be seen as a mercy when patients can’t be cured. Although death is unavoidable for human beings, suffering before death is unbearable not only for terminal patients but also for the family members and friends. We can take a true story about Sue Rodriguez as an example, Sue Rodriguez was dying slowly of the incurable Lou Gehrig's disease. In February 1994, Sue Rodriguez died after several painful years. If euthanasia is legalized the family members of patients could sleep peacefully knowing that they have been "mercied" and died easily with little pain instead of being kept alive by a machine or dying slowly and painfully from an incurable disease. In addition to mercy, euthanasia ought to be legalized for financial gain. In fact, when a person dies by euthanasia, he or she can save much money not only for their family but also for society. According to a survey conducted by Holland‘s health center showed that there are three million dollar were save by euthanasia cases. When a person stopped his or her needless life by euthanasia, a hospital can have more bed and facilities to treat for others. So why don’t we accept to use euthanasia all over the world? Finally, the final reason why euthanasia ought to be permitted is that history tells us that mercy killers have generally been let off easy in court. In the case of Hans Florian, a man who shot his elderly wife to death because she had lost her mind to Alzheimer's disease, the grand jury refused to indict him. As in this case and numerous others, the killers are usually let off easy because of sympathetic jury members or judges. For this reason, euthanasia should be legal, for it goes along with current attitudes in the courtroom. In contrast, the church is the main reasons why euthanasia isnot allowed to use. The church goes on to say that death is inevitable and when it is clear that God is calling us we can accept his summons with faith but in no way speed up the process. Besides that, we must worry about abusing euthanasia. According to Rita Marker of the International Anti-Euthanasia Task Force, euthanasia now accounts for 15% of the deaths in the Netherlands. It’s so awful! In conclusion, despite euthanasia has both advantages and disadvantages, I still strongly think that euthanasia ought to be legalized. In future, I think all nations over the world will accept euthanasia and poor souls can die peacefully.
