Both the reading and the lecture discuss the risk-taking behavior. The reading mainly states that it is a mental illness, whereas the professor explains that this article is quite old and that nowadays the wish to do something risky is a normal one.
The first professor's point is that human beings usually take risks in one certain place. For example, a banker can be a calm and confident person at work, but ride a sport-bike on weekends. It contradicts the reading which states that those people, who engage in risky activities, have a mental illness.
Furthermore, according to the professor, most of risk takers recognize that their activities are less dangerous because of their skill, attitude and experience. On the other hand, the reading alleges that they usually behave inadequately.
Finally, the professor touches on a fact that risky behavior is usually rewarded. Although the reading says that street racers drive their cars fast without any reason, the professor argues that it is a good source of adrenalin. Moreover, risky people are usually successful in their lives.
In conclusion, the way of looking at the risk behavior is changing. Psychologists used to think that it was a mental illness, but now they agree that sometimes it is normal to a person to participate in some dangerous activities. ....................................................................................................................... Short and to the point. Good.
