Topic. Some people say that university students should concentrate on their own field of study from the very start. Others believe that university students should take classes in many fields before concentrating on a single field. Which view do you support?

As far as I am concerned, one of the most important thing students have to do in their college life is to make decision on major. I think it is better if from the very start students take classes in various fields. Students can make their proper decisions after having an overview of all subjects, and they can become flexible if knowing various fields of study.

First of all, taking classes in various fields can help students to make decision on their majors better. It is truly difficult for students to make up their minds since they are still confused about their potentials and interests; wrong decisions will waste their time and efforts. However, taking classes in various fields will provide students with a clear overview of all things; they will find out which field they are fond of, which one they are talented for, and which one is good for their future.

Secondly, as far as I know, today companies and employers are inclined to seek for workers who are versatile. Therefore, studying in one field only is not enough for students to live and work in the real world. They need to be flexible and able to handle various situations, which can be obtained if students take classes in different fields during school. In my opinion, even if the knowledge of students about various fields is just rudimentary, it is still better than the fact that students know about one field of study.

Finally, even if students do not want to know about other fields, they still need to take classes in various fields because every field relates to others. It means if students want to be truly proficient in their fields, they also have to learn about other related fields. For example, an engineering student not only needs to study about engineering but also have to be merely expert on geography, law and even science.

For all the reasons above, there is no doubt that from the very start of college, students should not only study their majors, but should take classes on disparate fields. Studying different subjects not only turns students to be flexible but also is needed for students to be expert on their own fields.

Which aspect of my essay do you think is good and I should keep? You always say good work. You say that so much that I am now confused.
Many errors you corrected actually are misunderstandable; I mean I see no difference between the correct and incorrect word.

In the context, what is the difference between "to be" and " to become" ---- "expert on" and "expert in" ---- "will waste their time" and "will be a waste of time" ---- "disparate" and "separate" ---- "look for" and "seek for".
I think there is no difference between them.

Good morning Alive. The changes I have made are subtle, and would be more natural to the English native speaker.

eg. Employers would LOOK for workers, is more natural-sounding than SEEK for, simply because you would omit the "FOR" ... employers seek. (Employers seek workers, but look for workers.)

"is needed for students to beCOME expert IN their own fields."
To become is the hoped-for result of their studies. They become an expert IN a particular field, not ON a field.

You are correct about disparate and separate having the same meaning, but I would use separate simply because it is more often used in everyday English conversation.

Your reference to a straight-forward essay, in my opinion, is one that EVERY reader can fully understand, not just a minority group of highly educated readers. The need for using complex grammar and sophisticated vocabulary arises only after you enter a prestigious university. In the interim period, "Keep it simple."

You should keep in mind that I am NOT a teacher. I use phrases and simple vocabulary, the same as the vast majority of English folk. You are free to ignore my comments at your own discretion. I think you write very well, and are much improved since joining our Forum. This is due entirely to your determination to become expert in writing and speaking in English. My input in your improvement is negligible.

don't you think I am moaning?
Please, don't think that. I appreciate you so much.
I am just a bit frustrated, thought that there was no improvement. I believe you, and want to follow your advice.
I am sorry for my dissatisfaction.
Ok, I will keep it up, post my essays, and wait for your reply. I am delighted to see your feedback.

No Alive, I didn't think you were complaining. You asked a perfectly legitimate question which deserved an answer.
I hope you were satisfied with my answer.
