Topic 25: You have been told that dormitory rooms at your university must be shared by two students. Would you rather have the university assign a student to share a room with you, or would you rather choose your own roommate? Use specific reasons and details to explain your answer.
Today, as students must always cope with many difficult problems in their daily studies and lives, they want to share their emotions with their roommates, and their roommates can help them find the best ways to solve these problems. So, roommates play an important role while living together. Some people do not care who will live with them at their dormitory rooms, so they allow the university to allocate their roommates. However, in my opinion, I would rather choose my own roommate, and if I can choose my roommate, I will look for somebody whom I know very well in order to share emotions and all my living experience, and cooperate together in my study. Some reasons will illustrate my point of view.
To begin with, if we can choose a person who understands and takes care of us, she or he will help us find the best ways and give some good advice to solve many difficult problems in our daily work and lives. For example, during my studies, I always get stressed and tired, I want to share these problems with my roommates, and she will help me reduce stress by travelling somewhere and playing sports with me together on the weekend, or find the best ways to resolve these difficult problems. Therefore, I always feel happy when I am side by side with her.
Secondly, by living together, the two people who have never met and have different personalities would not only have to communicate with one another, but also cope with problems, such as lifestyle, culture and opinions. There may be many disputes when they live and work together, so they will fell stressed and tired in the room. Therefore, if we live with other people who we know and understand them, we can exchange our views and knowledge together easily and avoid argument, so we will feel comfortable and at ease with each other during living together.
Finally, good roommates will encourage us to overcome obstacles in our lives and studies. We will learn and work with them together better and faster. For example, my roommate always helps me practice English speaking skill when I am not self-confident about my pronunciation. After a few months, I spoke English fluently with other students in my class.
In conclusion, roommates play an important role in our daily lives at university. Therefore, I want to live with people who I know and understand their personalities, because they will help me achieve success in study.
