Some people believe that university students should be required to attend classes. Others believe that going to classes should be optional. Which point do you agree with? Use specific reasons and details to support your response.

After having been studied for three years as an undergraduate student at the University of Cagliari, I have heard different opinions about the fact that students should be required to attend classes or not. I think that all the classes should be optional for two main reasons. First, only students that don’t appreciate a specific class won’t go at university to disturb the other ones. Secondly, students that can’t go to classes, won’t miss their much important commitments.

The first reason for which I think that classes should be optional is based upon the fact that only students who are interested will go to attend the lessons of a specific class. If, for example, all students are required to attend classes, the classroom will be composed by a mix of interested students and bored ones. Pupils that are interested will listen carefully to teacher and, however, students that are bored will chat and, as a result, disturb the others.
In my personal experience, when I attended the economics lessons, students were required to attend lectures and, as I expected, there was much noise and it was difficult to pay attention to the teacher.

The second reason for which I prefer optional classes is that a person is not required to attend them. Therefore, if a student works can combine both his study and work career. In this way, he can at the same time, earn money and sit exams. Another example is that, if a student must take care of one parent, he can do it without problems.
In my family, my cousin is an undergraduate student. Two years ago his parents had a bad car accident and, as a result, they were seriously injured. A person was needed during their recovery period. Because students were not required to attend classes, he had the time to take care of them.

While some people prefer that students should be required to attend classes, I totally disagree with them for this reasons. The first one is that a student who doesn’t like a subject can stay at home and avoid to disturb the other ones. The second is that a person who can’t go to school, will not be worried about his absences, that won’t affect his marks.

One glaring fault in your work. You continually use contractions. You will lose lots of marks in your TOEFL exam if you persist in doing this.
