'Work' is not a verb in this sentence. 'Start' is the verb. 'Work' is a noun here. It is the object and in this particular sentence it refers to your job.

Hello,in this case it could be said start working or stop working.Many thanks in advance,I'm a enthuastic student of English and I believe the habit of doing a test daily keeps my english fresh and casual.
