Tripping into the unknown...

It's me again with another question.

I browsed the amazon sites searching for some books that could provoce my interest I tripped over "(it) ...is taken up by clich?s".
What does this mean?

Hi Naufragis, I think this means that a large portion of the language we use in and for our daily communication consists of set phrases - so called clich?s.
When we speak we often use collocations and word combinations that occur over and over again. Some of those phrases are overused and their meaning diminishes. It's a rare case somebody tries to invent a new word or phrase. Shakespeare did it this for example. You can read more about Shakespeare phrases in some of Alan's Language Titbits:
