Hi Sergey134,
Vehicles such as cars/trains/ships are often referred to as she especially by the older generation as we assume the speaker in this dialogue is a member of.

As to "he" or "she", I believe that we call God "he", and the rest like animals and things "she". Is this correct? _________________ Learning is a sacred engagement. |

Hi Adrian and Hani
Saying definitely here means "without any doubt at all" and this would also be the typical word order. Mr Corp is telling the woman that she can be very sure that the train is going to London.
Precisely means exactly or rigidly, so the meaning doesn't work well.
------------
Hi Ahmadov
Yes, God is usually referred to as 'he'. Animals are referred to as 'it' but you can use 'he' or 'she' if you know the gender. For example, I have two cats. One is male, the other is female. So I refer to one as he and the other as she.
Things are always referred to as 'it'. There are just a few exeptions. However, even for the exceptions, people use it much more often than he or she.

Chit Chat: In the train
Dear torsten, I am doing the exercise “in the train chit chat” I think there is one mistake it may be possible I am wrong however please checking the exercise and confirm Mrs. Ashton: Excuse me but do you know if this train is going to London?
Mr. Corp: Oh yes, madam. She's definitely going to London.
Here the train is going to London or she is going to London I think the train is going.

Most respectful Teachers,
could you please guide that
Can we use "they" & "them" for things and animals?
please explain with example
a).There are many books but I like just one of them
b). I got data but some files are with errors and wonder if you could rectify as they have been pending since long despite of urgent requirement.
kindly check both sentences and correct if these/they are wrong
waiting for your reply with advance thanks |
