Unless he is doing some form of dangerous gymnastics, 'drops his bag onto the floor' is correct.

So, the correct answer is "onto"?

If the noun is 'bag' in each version, then either 'on' or 'onto' is acceptable.

"My bad"... what a silly, nonsensical expression. Why is it so hard for people to say, "my mistake" these days?
