1. Since conflict is intransitive, "with" is necessary. It does not take direct objects.
2. "Each other" can occur behind all sorts of transitive verbs and prepositions. "With each other" is just one among myriad possibilities. The difference between "with each other" and "each other" is as basic as that between "with him" and "him." "Each other" is just a pronoun unto itself, like "him." Does the verb require a direct object? If I need an intransitive use or a plainly intransitive verb, which preposition do I need to suit the intended relationship? The same rules apply.
We spoke to each other. - Prepositional example *We spoke each other. We laughed with each other. - Prepositional example *We laughed each other. We laughed at each other. - Prepositional example *We laughed each other. We are there for each other. - Prepositional example *We are there each other. The cars crashed into each other. - Prepositional example *The cars crashed each other. We hurt each other. - Direct object. *We hurt with each other. We like each other. - Direct object *We like with each other. We know each other. - Direct object *We know with each other.
We spoke to him. - Prepositional example *We spoke him. We laughed with him. - Prepositional example *We laughed him. We laughed at him. - Prepositional example *We laughed him. We are there for him. - Prepositional example *We are there him. We hurt him. - Direct object. *We hurt with him. We like him. - Direct object *We like with him. We know him. - Direct object *We know with him. |

Thank you! Now, I understand about transitive and intransitive verbs very well.
How about b-verb then?
1. We are good friends each other. 2. We are good friends with each other.
Which is correct? And do how I know? |

Hi Pooh,
You need to add 'with' in (2)

Pooh, this time you have chosen a linking verb. The complement is "good friends." The sentence is complete.
We are good friends.
We cannot just add the pronoun "each other" or ANY pronoun to the end of this sentence.
*We are good friends him.
If you would need "with" or any other preposition to express the idea with "him," you would also need it with "each other."
We are good friends with him.
And similarly
We are good friends with each other.
*We are good friends each other. = We are good friends him. |
