How many words in your vocabulary? #1 (permalink) Fri Dec 30, 2005 17:02 pm   How many words in your vocabulary?

Hi, what do you think, is there any reliable method of measuring your own active vocabulary? I mean, do you have any idea how many words you use on a daily basis? I know that the English language contains about 250.000 words and there is no way one person could ever know all of them let alone use them. So the question is how many words do you use when you communicate in English? Also, how many words do you think you know when you communicate in your mother tongue?

How many words in your vocabuarly? #2 (permalink) Tue Jan 10, 2006 17:25 pm   How many words in your vocabuarly?

hi
i find it really hard to know
as far as i am concerned,i might have got 6000 words.
english words may be put into two categories:active and passive, which makes it even harder to know your proficiency of english just by how many words you have mastered.
