Dear teachers,

Please check this exercise for me. Thank you so much.

1. I (1. phone) you at about 9 o’clock this morning but you (2. not answer). What you (3. do)?
2. Well, I (4. hear) the phone but I (5. have) a shower and I (6. cannot) get out in time (7. answer) it. Anyway, what you (8. want)?
3. Well, last night I (9. clear) out that old desk you (10. give) me when I (11. come) across a pile of old letters with a red ribbon round them. They (12. address) to you. And they all (13. smell) of perfume, a man’s perfume.
4. You look hot. What you (14. do)? I (15. run). How far you (16. run)? About four miles.
5. What’s the problem? You look a bit preoccupied. Yes, I (17. think) about Helen. Why? Is there something wrong with her? Well, she (18. act) so strangely lately. Some days when she arrives at work, I know that she (19. cry). And she (20. make) private calls when we’re all out at lunch. I’ve just think that something’s going on.

The last sentence is more likely to be 'what were you doing?' It's hard to tell as there is a typo or other info missing.

3. Well, last night I was cleared out that old desk you gave me when I came across a pile of old letters with a red ribbon round them. They were addressed to you. And they all smelled of perfume, a man’s perfume.

"I was clearing out that old desk..."

i think that the first sentence should like this:

1. I phoned you at about 9 o’clock this morning but you did not answer. What were you doing?
