Hello Alan, Mister Micawber, Beeesneees, Mordant, Esl_Expert and other native English speakers,

------------------------------------------
http://tinyurl.com/2cmlpyf
Jobs said that just 0.5 per cent of all iPhone 4 users – around 15,000 people – had contacted Apple to complain about antenna problems. He also said that fewer people had returned iPhone 4 handsets than returned the iPhone 3GS, the handset Apple launched in 2009.
------------------------------------------

"...fewer people had returned iPhone 4 handsets than returned the iPhone 3GS..."
Is this fine as it is? Is there anything missing between than and returned?

The missing 'had' is assumed and this is acceptable usage.
