conjunctions at the beginning of sentences? #1 (permalink) Sun Jul 18, 2010 15:38 pm   conjunctions at the beginning of sentences?

Hello,

As far as I know, 'but' and 'and' can be used to begin a sentence in the modern usage. Is this right? Is there any restriction for this and can any other conjunctions be used at the beginning of sentences?

Thank you very much.

I think in the following case, the use of 'but' at the beginning of the sentence is incorrect. What do you think?

"I want to tell you something. But I'll say that later"

It is not usual, but it is possible to use it.

You'll find a lively discussion about it here, along with a number of sources of explanation.
