Hello Danial2005 and welcome!
Like you, I am a language teacher; that makes us fellow sufferers . Joking apart, I would refer you to my post of Dec 27 about learning English in Spain. I should also like to point out that English is presently being taught in public schools, so the young do have some knowledge of it, but, as a whole, they hardly ever get a decent level of the language withouth out-of-school tuition.
I recently heard the following riddle, which all but sums up the situation here: What is a Spaniard? -- Someone who spends all their life trying to learn English. |

Hi Conchita, Thank you for your reply! I have read through your post of Dec 27 and thank you for your information. My students here like to ask questions concerning with English grammar but ignore reading practice, which I think is more important. what do you think about it? And do your students focus so much attantion on grammar?
all the best danial _________________ never say never! |

Hi Danial,
I agree with you that, when learning a tongue, reading as well as listening should be essential parts of the process, especially for vocabulary learning and fluency. A lesson focused solely on grammar can be a total bore, particularly for younger students, but after all, grammar is the frame of a language, so to speak. Now the 'dosage' depends on the students' age and needs, so except for very young children or advanced students, lessons are more often than not centred on grammar.
Anyway, modern coursebooks and other learning tools (like this site!) are usually quite fun; besides, English grammar is much easier to come to grips with than, say, its French or Spanish counterparts, for which you might need to pluck up quite a bit of courage! |
