Can i say this way Thu Jan 05, 2006 12:51 pm  Can i say this way

Hello everyone,
My question is :
when somebody asks me a difficult question and I can't possibly answer it, can I reply to him or her by "sorry, you got me ", implying that I feel hard to answer the question or solve a problem which I am supposed to solve.

many thanks!

danial

Hi danial2005,

The usual conversational comment is along those lines. You would/could say: Sorry, you've got me there. Sorry, that's beyond me.

Just some thoughts.

Alan

You can say, "You got me!" but it's very colloquial slang, and sometimes it can be sarcastic. For more polite speech, use Alan's suggestions.
