As still a boy of ten, he started to work to support himself.

when still a boy of ten,he started to work to support himself.

Of the two sentences, which is correct or both are correct?

To be honest I don't like either of those sentences. I would prefer:

Even as a boy of ten, he started ...

or

While stil a boy of ten, he ....
