"Sex Education" for high school students. How and what to give? #1 (permalink) Thu Aug 05, 2010 6:30 am   "Sex Education" for high school students. How and what to give?

Hi all,

I do understand that in some countries, the information concerning to "sex" to teenagers is complete and satisfying. The more they understand the more they can appreciate themselves. This is very important at least, they understand how to protect themselves from, for instance, diseases correlated with their sexual organs.
But unluckily, in some other countries, "sex issue" is taboo to share and this will affect the teenagers' behaviors. Many cases show up like, abortion, married in a very young ages, unready couples, diseases, etc.

My question is how, in your experience handle this issue. I want to give my students more infos about "sex" but how to start and what to tell. Need your suggestion.

Kind regard

Adinn

"Sex Education" for high school students. How and what to give? #2 (permalink) Thu Aug 05, 2010 12:53 pm   "Sex Education" for high school students. How and what to give?

Dear Adinn, It is a topic which is gaining an acceleration in India too where, you know, most of the sections of people are still deprived of normal education. Quite naturally, sex education in India is still a taboo and even the mothers here feel ashamed and get confused in guiding their daughters about sex, safe sex etc before marriage of their daughters. However, a constant endeavour from the Government level and awareness, though slow, of the people in this regard are at least changing the scenario. Fortunately the topic is highly debated presently. The newspapers and the electronics media also playing an important role in this regard. It should not be expected that things will change readily and radically. It will take time as socio-economic condition and religious belief specially in Muslims in India do not permit this. As many as people come under education, more will they be aware about sex education or safe sex. In conclusion, I think that there is no place for pessimism. So, it would not be an exaggeration that all schools in India have included sex education in their curriculum one day. Thanks and regards. Expecting a reply from your end, Partha Roy

Ups....Partha Roy... thanks for the info you told me.
I am quite confused here in my country... the more people talk about pornography and the more people who search for that, even the teenagers. I was once ever told privately by my student that many of his friends kept porn videos in their cell phones. it is easy to download and share the videos. Can you imagine what they have in their mind when watching the videos. I am really worried about this phenomena. The adults shout No for "sex" but they don't do anything instead.

The teens are just the victims of the adults' egoism and also they are the victims for the sake of religion issue. "sex" is not only "mating" right? but many more in it like healthy reproduction organs, etc.

Still very hard to do it personally in a million of people.
thanks Partha Roy.... nice to meet you here.

Good luck
Adinn
