Difference between other and another

why is the other unacceptable answer? A little bit of confusing with another. Please explain.

Hi,

When you use 'the other', you have to refer to it in advance when you are talking about two things as in: There are two houses in the road, one has three bedrooms and the other has five.

'Another' simply means one additional thing/one extra thing and can refer to any number of things as in: There are several houses in the road, one is detached, one is semi-detached, one is terraced and another is a bungalow.

I think uses " other" could be acceptable before singular and plural nouns, but " another" could only before singular.
e.g. another idea , another person, another one, another girl , anothe kinship friend, another meeting. another engineer.
other person, other idea, other friends, other teachers. other engineers.
note: idea treat as singular
