"All nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems."
The author who advocates the development of a global university may look forward to a scenario like this: students from all over the world would sit together, learning from each other and discuss their common concerns. So what if the imagination comes true? We may analyze the advantages it could bring us(,) and the flaws that have to be taken seriously, and then give a fair judgEment on the topic.
First and foremost, the university would contribute to promoting global cooperation. Although the specific conditions vary from different countries, they may suffer from some common fundamental problems deriving from the similar origins. A global university can help to establish a common ground or reach a consensus. Further, some affairs demanding urgent solutions, such as the depletion of atmospheric ozone and the project of space exploration, which may take huge amountS of expense or intellects, can hardly be handled by one or two countries and call for international collaboration. Additionally, collisions and disputes are all-pervading presences among countries and areas(,) because of diversified political or cultural backgrounds. For example, the constant conflicts between Palestine and Israel can be partially due to their different religious beliefs, and they have few opportunities of communication and mutual understanding. A global university would play a crucial role in bridging the barrier.
However, before the university is built up, some obstacles remain to be overcome in the first place. In ancient Babylon, when people spoke a single language, the Tower of Babel was not built because God confused people's language. TODAY a global university seems to be another Tower of Babel, because now humans are not only SPEAKING with different languageS, but also with different cultures, values, races and religions, and I think THAT IS the most serious factor that should be taken into account. The management of the university will have to consider how to institute the curriculum as well as formulate and implement teaching plans, in order to meet the needs of students all over the world with various backgrounds. Another problem worthy of being noticed is to ensure students should be treated equally no matter which country, developed or backward, they come from, and there should be no living space for racial and sexual discrimination. Moreover, where can the funds come from? As the speaker implies, it is all countries that would share the expenditure, but the allocations made to each country still need further consultation. More importantly, I find it to some extent(,) unnecessary to found a global university in the current society. Ones who are engaged in solving the global social problems can use the (I)nternet as a powerful platform to discuss heatedly and make out solutions. By reason of funding a great amount of money on a global university, governments may have difficultly affording the immediate expenses(,) such as citizen'S welfare and research funds. If that is the case, establishing a global university is nothing but a waste of money and energy.
On balance, in an era of rapid social and technical changes, a global university is still somewhat OF AN ideal. As far as I am concerned, we can employ some ways that work better than that. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Very good work Atlas. I liked this.
