Well there may have been poor advice given, but we also use 'ill-advised' simply when it seems a poor idea after the fact.

'ill-advised' marriage - marriages which turned out to be a poor idea (because the husband and wife ended up not getting on and possibly getting divorced.
virginity - the state of never having had sexual intercourse.

It implies that when people have marriage problems this is often the cause of problems for everyone around them too.
Being a virgin is not a problem.
