Technological progress has made us lazy? #1 (permalink) Sat Aug 14, 2010 19:13 pm   Technological progress has made us lazy?

Topic: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Technological progress has made us lazy.

High technology has become a vital part of our daily lives. It enables people to do tasks and finish them in seconds, and more easily. However, many people think that people are more dependent on technology, and have become lazier due to advanced technology's help. In my opinion, it is not technological progress that makes us idler, and on the contrary, it is technology that enables people to work harder not only physically but also mentally.

To begin with, advanced machines have given people a great opportunity to spend more time working physically on their favorite activities. For example, as parents, nowadays, can finish their tasks, such as doing chores, cooking, and washing clothes in a few minutes with help of technology such as vacuum cleaners, and washing machines, parents have more time to spend on their children, playing with them and helping them study. Moreover, technological progress encourages people to spend time working on, and be interested in previously boring things. With help of microwaves, electric stoves, cooking, for many people, is no longer a boring task, as they can easily cook delicious meals for their families. Similarly, body building has also become more enjoyable, as now we do exercise with body building machines.

Furthermore, technological progress provides us with an easy access to huge sources of information, which requires our minds to work harder in order to analyses, and receive good information. We have not only the Internet as the world biggest source of information but also television and radio which enable us to receive information around the world just in seconds. Our brains have to work harder to process, and understand the information. Moreover, as there are various sources of information, it is necessary that we have to analyses, and be selective in order to receive useful information.

For all the reasons above, I believe that advanced technology has made people inclined to work harder not only physically but also mentally. It enables people to spend more time on their favorite activities, and receive various sources of information.

Please check my essay grammatically, thanks!
People have various opinions about the effect of technology on individuals’ lives. Some people think that technological progress has made us lazy while others disagree with this opinion. I believe that it is a wrong idea that technological advance makes us lazy.
First of all, the progress of technology causes the people to live more conveniently but it doesn’t mean people have become lazy. In the recent century, technology has progressed very much, for example people can obtain much information about the space and other planets, and also the scientists have discovered new things about atoms and other new sciences, but all these progresses require the mankind to think more than before . Therefore although the people work more convenient, they are required to put a lot of energy in mental activities.
In addition, computers are one great achievement of mankind which has a big effect on the way of people’s lives. Today, with help of computers, although we are able to finish our tasks in hours, we must use a lot of mental energy for working with computers and it will be even harder than the physical work. Moreover, the progress of technology enables us to save our time and spend more time in the activities which are more beneficial and interesting.
Consequently, it is a wrong idea that technological progress has made us lazy. Although technology has improved the quality of life and made the individuals’ lives easier, it requires people to work mentally.
