Hello, Meerkat-- and welcome to English-test.net.
B sounds more like a sailor to me. Be careful when making friends with sailors. _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

Hello Meerkat,
'Aye' is equivalent to 'yes', so just one will do! _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

Thanks to you both. Mister Micawber, your reply made me laugh (not good when you're sitting in a library!)
How about if there were a pause between the two "aye"s? Would it then mean the same as "yes, yes"?
A: Would you like a beer? B: Aye. Aye.
And yes, I'll be careful about having a beer with sailors :) |

f there were a pause then it would be more acceptable, but personally I think the usage should be left to a native of Scotland. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |
