Hi,

Thanks for that - we'll change it to:

Bill straightened up the office, pretending not to listen to Bob's ..... of the conversation with his wife.

This then means that Bill was doing other things to give the impression that he wasn't listening to what Bob was saying to his wife.

'How is everything at your end?' or 'not at my end.' What do these phrases mean?

These phrases are usually uttered during a telephone conversation. The "end" refers to your location, and how things are there.

Hi Luby,

We have to use 'do' because the subject 'phrases' is plural. What does this phrase mean? (singular) What do these phrases mean? (plural)

Good Evening.
I see that Sir,that was what I was wondering.I thought because it has a plural so we have to use 'do' not 'does' as in 'What do these questions mean?' and What does this question mean'?

Thanks again!
