Hi, please tell me the difference between bill and invoice. In my opinion, bill as more colloquial term and invoice is more formal? Also, bill can have other meanings such as banknote and or proposed law but I guess there is more to that question?
Thank you in advance.
Frank

I think that you have covered the distinction quite well, Frank. Where they have the same meaning of a record of amount owing, an invoice is a formal document in a sales transaction, and is a business term. Bill is used in conversation, and is what we normally receive from our waiter or dentist.
