Hello James, As an MBA student I am working on Internet-based organizations. (educational organizations) You can take an English-learning website for example. For instance, this is an Internet-based organization (Learners = Customers , Employees = Moderators, teachers, administrators and there is a manager or managers and so forth.) As far as I have realized so far (I sent messages to so many moderators on the websites, some of them helped me, and I have gotten some replies.) there is no interaction between employees (moderators and teachers) like what there is in a real workplace. Some of them don't know each other and they just know the programmer and the managers. Besides, The interesting part of the results was that the majority of them don't have income from the websites that they are collaborating on. (They teach English online to help other people and as a hobby) However, they are many teachers who are making money this way and it's a part of their jobs. So it would be a manager's responsibility to do everything in order to have a reputable and successful website. Consequently, I wanted to know the good qualities of a good manager from different point of views. _________________ Who dares to teach must never cease to learn. -John Cotton Dana |

Hi Richard, let me propose some of the qualities from what I have experience on this English Test forum. A good manager of a site should posses the following qualities;
- He/she should be a great guide, coopertaive and calm. - Beside locking a particular thread ,should provide the reason. - Always make possible changes to the site - Control the forum as if it was his/her child - To keep the threads clean, stupid comments should be deleted. - A very good moderator should set an example to other members of the site. - Finally, he or she should be creative, with excellent sence of humor and imaginagion !
This is just what I think. _________________ Practice makes perfect. |

Well, I've worked in many websites as moderator as well as administrator. First you need to understand the basic languages of the intrnet which are html and php because whenever you find a mistake or you want to edit something which the website editor can't, you'll edit by yourself. You should have knowledge on scripts. As the internet changes, you'll need to follow this change adding new funtionalities in your website. _________________ Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance.

Hi Yasha, Remember I've promised you to write my opinion on the topic, but on having read it I realised that I know next to nothing about website managing. So I presume my opinion will be of no value.
Well, it seems to me that manager is a mastermind of the website, he should posses all virtues Nzuahp & Tomasito have mentioned above. I suppose it is like in teaching - you have to be knowledgeable, not to be afraid of experimenting and of course human resource makes the difference. I remember one American teacher used often to say 'good manager does nothing'. Probably it means that a gifted manager is able of organising other more talented people in order to make profit. That's it, nothing clever comes to mind. :-) _________________ I'm a natural blonde, please speak slowly ;-) |

You should take Bagheera's opinion into consieration. Before I started working, I used to spent most of my time creating new wap and websites. First were sites adapted for mobile phones http://filosofia.wen.ru then I moved to websites. The last one is http://tomasdaniel.ueuo.com/page You just need time and dedication.
