Is that kefir? A kind of fermented milk (which by coincidence I found out about yesterday)? _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

Hi dear, Yes, do you have such notion in English? I presume you don't. Is fermented milk an equivalent? _________________ I'm a natural blonde, please speak slowly ;-) |

Guys, I'm sooooooo grateful for the update I can't even express my gratitude! I was sure that there is no such word in English.

As I said, the product is something I was unfamiliar with until this week. It seems to be growing in popularity. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

Hi Remula,
Could you spell it in Russian? I don't understand the word? _________________ I'm a natural blonde, please speak slowly ;-) |

It's an Azeri ... beverage or .... I don't know how to call it. It's like kefir ...
I think it's matsoni in Russian, but I'm not sure. What is the difference between kefir and matsoni? |

Ydk, I know qatiq is not Russian beverage. I thought it was made only in Azerbaijan, but I looked at the link from the webpage related to the uzbek cuisine, presented by Beee. Now I think, it must be a drink of the turkic peoples or may be even the eastern peoples. However, it's more close to Russian matsoni than to youghurt. I don't know how youghurt is made, but I think they are not the same ... at least the youghurts I tried tested quite differently. Sometimes it's very difficult to find translation of a word in the language, where this thing doesn't exist at all :) For example, ayran. Does it exist in your kitchen and how do you translate it? We call it ayran even in English. Or ovduq? Ovduq is met in Russian cuisine. It's called okroshka. My God, I wouldn't mind ovduq at present, but ... :(
Thanks everyone :) |

For what it's worth, "kefir" is also known in the United States, and nearly every supermarket in my area sells kefir.
In the health food section, it's called "kefir", but when it's sold in small bottles for children, it's marked "drinkable yoghurt". |
