Hi,

If for instance the telephone is ringing, and I pick up the receiver and the person on the other end of the receiver is asking for somebody else (for the sake of argument let's call him Ted). Can I use the following phrases:

1. Hang on a second, I'm going to put you through to Ted.
2. Hang on a second, I'm going to hand Ted the receiver.
3. Hang on a second, I'm going to give Ted the receiver.
4. Hang on a second, I'm going to go find Ted and hand/give him the receiver.

If none of those sit well with you, what would you utter in a similar situation (what is common in your neck of the woods)?

Thanks!

Hi OTS,

My best would be (1). I think mention of the 'receiver' sounds a bit strained. Another acceptable comment would be: I'll hand you over to Ted.
