Do people should pay more attention to study the history relevant to our daily lives? Form the point of speak, it will benefits from study the history of our daily lives. But, I doubt the standpoint strongly. The study of history is helpful for us by analyzing the representative people and events rather than that is relevant to our daily lives, because the basic purpose of study history is to see the condition of that time and learn the experience to avoid the same problems replaying and figure out more difficulties.
To begin with, the history is complex and contains variety of aspects. The director of the history is running class, and the recorder of the history has chosen by the government. The top class of the society prefer to recode the history from their point. It is easy for them to overlook the recording of the civilians, and the history always relevant to the cross-sectional one and most of them are far away from our daily lives. The Records of the Grand Historian is one of the most great history magnum opus written by Sima Qian in China, in which he recounted Chinese history from the time of Yellow Emperor until his own time. It record important event, for example the change of the dynasty and most of the figure written by Sima Qian is king of his times, feudal nobles, and outstanding person at that time. There are no recording about the life of civilian. Sima Qian might think that it is not value for log the common life to afterworld who read his works. If one only takes the relevant to our daily lives into account, there is small boundary that we can study. Moreover, the value of study history is to comprehend the condition and situation of society in period of time by discussion the history of people, the byproduct of them, and significant events. Because famous people , and vital events delegate that time. For example, When Huckleberry Finn was first published in the United States in 1885, critical response was mixed, and a few libraries banned the book for its perceived offenses to propriety. After Twain's death his works gradually became elevated as national treasures, but following World War I commentators such as William Faulkner and Van Wyck Brooks cast doubt on the greatness of Huckleberry Finn.
Furthermore, history is the mirror of our society. One can learn the experience for study history, and avoid the same problems happening again, even help us to solve some difficult problems come into being from our modern society. In militarily, one still learn something from The Art of War written by Chinese author Sun Tzu, and some of his logos is satiable for the modern war. In medical, medical worker pay enough attention to the Bencao Gangmu by Li Shizhen, one of the great physicians and pharmacologists in Chinese history, and deal with some illness with the help of knowledge from Bencao Gangmu. In environmental protection, one always considers the pollution incident, and tries best to avoid making the same mistake. The Minamata disease compensation agreements of 1959 were agreed between the polluting Chisso company and representative groups of fishermen and Minamata disease patients who had been affected by mercury pollution. If one analysis the cause of the Minamata disease, we could protect the security of nations and environment from disease.
To sum up, from the reasons mentioned before, what contribute to develop our society is to study the history relevant the representative figure and affair rather than the unavailable history relevant to our daily lives. |
