Can distance learning & online computer classrooms repalce classroom learning #1 (permalink) Thu Sep 09, 2010 10:09 am   Can distance learning & online computer classrooms repalce classroom learning

The advance of technology, resulted to the advent of new methods for education and learning. Distance learning and online computers, are the most primary methods used for learning. But the question is could these methods be a good replace for classroom learning or not? In my opinion, these new methods are not appropriate replacements for classroom learning, because they cannot provide the benefits that classroom learning does.
To begin with, i think attending classrooms is crucial for students learning a subject. Discussions in classrooms, are really beneficial for students. They can become familiar with other student's opinions, and also they can impart their own ideas to others. In this way, they become aware of other aspects of the subject they didn't find out themselves, and also they can figure out their misinterpretations of the subject. In other words, sharing the knowledge of the subject with other students in a classroom, can help them get a comprehensive understanding of the subject, which cannot be gained by studying alone using computers. Therefore, computer classes can never replace face to face discussions in real classrooms.
In addition, I think nothing can replace the information that the professor conveys to the students in a classroom. Professors may explain the subject by writing main points on boards, or they may use some pictures, videos, or power points to convey the main points efficiently. These all can be best memorized by the students, and apprentices can recall them easily whenever they need them. These visual memories, are not available when students use distance learning methods or online computer classes.
All in all, i think distance learning and online computers are not good replacements for class room learning. They cannot be good substitutes for discussions in classrooms, and also nothing can replace the explanations of the professors given in classrooms.

In other words, sharing the knowledge of the subject with other students in a classroom, can help them get a comprehensive understanding of the subject, which cannot be gained by studying alone using A computer. Therefore, computer classes can never replace face to face discussions in real classrooms.
