in this forum i want to talk about "Eid ul-Fitr" : "last friday and saturday"
"Eid ul-Fitr" is a tow-day Muslim official holiday "in algeria" with vacations for schools, universities and government offices. Some stores and restaurants are also closed during Eid.that marks the end of Ramadan "the Islamic holy month of fasting (sawm)". Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiṭr means "conclusion of the fast"; and so the holiday celebrates the conclusion of the thirty days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan. The first day of Eid, therefore, falls on the first day of the month Shawwal.
Eid ul-Fitr is sometimes also known as the "Smaller Eid"
Eid prayer is performed in congregation in open areas like fields, community centers, etc or at mosques.
After the prayers, Muslims visit their relatives & neighbours & friends and start greeting one another. The most common greeting is "Eid Mubarak" (Blessed Eid).
We have also what we call "Eid gifts" and they are frequently given to children and immediate relatives; it is also common to bay some new clothes for children to wear during the EID and to give them small sums of money by adult relatives or friends.
Also, women (particularly mothers, wives, sisters and daughters) are commonly given special gifts by their loved ones
The families gatherings involve cooking and eating all kinds of Algerian food but the item most associated with Eid al-Fitr are special cookies (like: makroud, baklawa, ghrubia, mekhabbez ....) with some tea or coffe and even milk for children, and for diner we make kouskous or tchekhchoukha... mmmm very delecious, i invite you to visit as in algeria and you will enjoy really.
algerians like to celebrate with others so the streets are always crowded during the days and nights of Eid.
