How can rate my TOEFL essay myself? #1 (permalink) Sat Feb 04, 2006 14:51 pm   How can rate my TOEFL essay myself?

Hi!
I am taking TOEFL on March 10. I have done many TOEFL practice tests; it seems easy for me. Listening - no mistakes. Structure - no mistakes; Reading - about 5 mistakes. Essay - well, it is impossible to grade myself! :-)
Somebody had posted a very useful link which grades TOEFL essay. The thing is that I get 6 almost every time I am writing an essay. I am vary glad, of course, but then I have started wondering whether this programme grades essays the same way TOEFL/TWE committee would grade it.

So, this one - I got grade 6 for it. It is too short, I would say!!
Once I wrote longer piece of writing and got just grade 5 for it.

So, here it is-

The essay prompt was:
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Telephones and email have made communication between people less personal. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

This was your essay:
I would disagree to this statement, actually, I point of view seems to be quite opposite - I think that telephones have made relationship between people more personal. You can hear the voice of a person you are talking to just in your ear, which is similar to whispering. As to e-mails, it is rather a question of getting in touch with other people faster and cheaper.

So, what do you think of it?
(I am going to apply for gradschool in the UK. Programme - MA in the English language and linguistics. I need at least 570-580, well, I regularly have about 640 on practice tests. The only worry is about teh essay, as I do not know, what they are looking for.)
