"Formal educational credentials should be the most important factor in hiring employees."
Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion stated above. Support your views with reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations or reading.

Selection and elimination are the two ways in hiring an employee. While selection looks at best fit. Elimination filters the candidate, based on certain criterion or factor. The hiring process of an organization uses a mix of the two processes - elimination followed by selection. Formal education credentials is mostly used as a filtering or eliminating factor. It might be an important factor but I strongly dispute if it is the most important factor in hiring an employee.

Let's look at the hiring process in academics. Formal education sure seems as one of the most important factor. However, here as well, weight is given on the presentation style of the prospective employee. After all, he or she will be required to take classes.

As for scientists, they might look at formal education of the prospective researcher while selecting him. But, greater importance is given on soft skills like dedication, focus and stamina.

Lets change the direction and quote few examples where skills far outweigh formal education. We all have faced a plumbing problem. How would you hire a plumber? By
looking at his formal education! Its that obvious, here you will weigh word of mouth, the plumber's skill and reputation than his formal education credentials. You might never look at it.

Same goes for a system's guy. Most probably, your organization had used formal education as a filter while recruiting one. If you ask the System's recruiting head, he
might have used responses given by the prospects to problem scenarios as the selection criterion. What identifies a sure-shot candidate is his skill in diagnosing a
problem in the network and fixing it.

In conclusion, formal education credentials are definitely not the most important factor in hiring an employee.

Not too bad Monali, but you drifted away from the formal replies usually expected in this form of test. Avoid informality whilst tackling this subject.
