Would you tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

The aim of the report was to take stock of general developments between eastern and western Germany to find out if "the nation was still on track to create equal living conditions for all, as is guaranteed by the German constitution", said Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere.

take stock = to make an estimate or appraisal, as of resources or of oneself

Thank you for your efforts.

hi Ivo,

albeit I´m no native I´d say your guess is right when it comes to talk about English expressions.

from the political point of view I´d say Lothar de Maiziere once again managed to say nothing by using lots of words
