TOPIC: ISSUE50 - "In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach." WORDS: 366 TIME: 00:45:00 DATE: 25/9/2010 7:05:41 PM
Although the academic theories and knowledge are fundamental REQUIREMENTS for researching and instruction for colleges and universities, taking TAKEN together with practical experiences and skills THEY undeniably serve the best way to help students to shape the abilities to survive in the realistic and pragmatic world. In terms of the way TO /GAIN/ACQUIRE/ such qualities, the speaker advocateS spending working time outside the academy(.) which somewhat, I concede it is one of the approachES but definitely not the only and the best.
To begin with, my proposition is that the practical experience indeed complementS the academic world. Notoriously, instead of basic science research, nowadays most of the research and study are almost benefit driven, aiming to turn the research results into a //ways, modes or even commercialised products to be beneficial to human society.//???? This tempo, more than possiblY, will continue in the foreseeable future and our young students and earlier career researcher such as PHD and master students need to follow(.) and well-adapt. Consequently, hi- demand of The faculty have not only academic knowledge but also practical experience AND are enjoyING a surge.(???) There is nothing more fascinating to see our lecturers and professors in higher education institutIONS sharing with their students about how they apply the theoretical knowledge to the realistic world; guiding students with their entrepreneurship experience to commercialise research; fulfilling the gap between academic world and pragmatic world together with their students.
In addition, aside from enhancing THE faculty's ability of instruction, working outside THE academic ENVIRONMENT moderately will contribute to their own study and research AT the same time. Without taking into consideration about how to make research useful to humanity, faculty invariably stumble STEER their careerS inTO the swamp of the tenuous basic research. What if a translational medical researcher dont DOES NOT have A modicum of clinical knowledge, REGARDING the hitherto state-of-the art standard operating procedure in hospitalS? He/she may possibly doesnt NOT know how and where is the point to start writing his/her research study proposal and protocol, let alone proceeding WITH promising research and applying the result to the bright BENEFIT of humanity.
On the other hand, despite THIS, the speaker's claim are somehow reasonable and mainly agreeD WITH by me, I respectfully point out that the speaker obviously overlooks other alternatives which may also improve the quality of instruction of THE faculty. Generally, given that THE faculty in college and university level always lack of time due to THEIR taxing workload, spending extra working time seems like a luxury for them(.) I assume cooperation should be the best way to serve chance for them to get involveD IN the practical field and real market. In fact, mushrooming cooperation and partnerships have been built up among companies, institutes, labs and cooperatIVes. These help AN academy TO advance in research and teaching, simultaneously avoidING lavishing time to work outside, which probably may affect and even ruin the faculty's work and quotidian life.
In sum, to best instruct our students who are the buttress of our future society, facultIES in higher education may need to work outside their academic world to gain practical experience, but indisputably, undue working outside guarantee counter-productive and undesirable consequence. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Again Joe, this wasn't too good. You appear to be using words that have no place in the context. Try to avoid complex words if you don't really know their meaning. I know it isn't easy ... just keep it simple and interesting.
