Would you tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentences?

The city, chosen because it holds the presidency of Germany's upper house of parliament, has been turned into a venue for concerts, street parties, parades and appearances by leading politicians.

All 16 of Germany's states and cities were being represented at the festival venue.

venue = the scene of any event or action (especially the place of a meeting)

place (events, meetings)
venue for the conference - the conference venue
Thank you for your efforts.
Ivo
