Advertising is the most important cause of unhealthy eating habits. #1 (permalink) Tue Oct 05, 2010 14:35 pm   Advertising is the most important cause of unhealthy eating habits.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement:
Advertising is the most important cause of unhealthy eating habits.

Nowadays, along with the development of medias and modern communication technology, advertising appears in almost everywhere and affect people in many respects. Some people even point out it is the contributing factor to unhealthy eating habits. However, advertising has, if any, little help to unhealthy eating habits.

Probably the most important reason is that unhealthy eating habits originate form unhealthy life rather than advertising. Currently, for example, some classmates of mine indulge in the Internet or on-line games, even forgetting regular meals. Some of they have to eat junk food when they are extremely starving/hungry. There is no evidence show that advertising has persuaded them to do that. Rather, they put themselves into Internet all day long, which offers little access to advertisement. Thus, unhealthy eating habits mainly depend on people’s unhealthy life.

The high-speed rhythm of society aggravates unhealthy eating habits of people. Today, stiff competition and mounting workload deplete most time and efforts of people. According the latest reports, it’s not uncommon that some employees have to work more than 10 hours per day. Even though they have a temporary vacation to relax, the only thing they desire to do is sleep. In other words, people have little time to prepare their nourishing food . Even worse, some people have no sufficient time for meals so that they have to starve until all the work had been accomplished. Gradually, these conditions/situations cause some unhealthy eating habits. Obviously, there is no link between advertising and these bad eating habits

Besides, unreasonable food demands incite unhealthy eating habits. Some people would like to eat popcorn when they are watching TV, no matter how long the TV lasts, they invariably keep eating. Some people like eating bag-food instead of fresh food, because they consider prepared food is more convenient. All these unhealthy eating habits should be attributed to their unreasonable food demands.

In conclusion, unhealthy life, speedy rhythm of society and unreasonable food demands should be the most important causes of unhealthy eating habits. Advertising plays a relatively slight/fractional role in this process.

Good work Cocol, but a little more concentration is called for. Don't allow yourself to be distracted whilst working.
