TOPIC: "In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books."

With the advent of television, there has been a change in many life aspects of the people in a society. From diminishing social relationships between individuals to preventing them from reading papers, the influence range of this technology has been vast. However, I believe that these changes in individuals’ lives could not necessarily replace the previous approaches people had in their behaviors. More clearly, for the special case of books, I believe that no new technology can thoroughly replace the need for reading them.
After invention of the television and broadcasting numerous types of TV programs using them, everyone has been able to sit relaxedly at their home and watch any type of TV programs they liked. Now the question is that, “Is watching TV programs on a topic always more useful than reading books on that topic?” my answer is, no. As an example, consider a TV program about a historic event or hero from hundreds of years ago. It is common that the producers of such program have read several books on that topic. Nevertheless, have they really produced the program content exactly according to what they have read? In most cases, this is not true and due to commercial purposes, it is very probable that some parts have been added to or removed from the original history in order to make the production more attractive for the public. Even for the parts that have been adopted from the original history, there may have been exaggerations and special effects, which undoubtedly did not exist in the written version. So, by watching TV rather than reading books, one is implicitly posing him/herself to the specific ideas and notions of TV program producers and not the real history behind it.
In conclusion, I concede that watching television has become one of the most important aspects of everyone’s life, however in my view, it cannot replace reading books for ones who seek real and deep ideas and knowledge about everything. You cannot suggest university or even high school students to watch scientific TV programs and reduce the amount of time they allot to reading books; you cannot replace reading a one-thousand-page book by watching a two-hour TV movie about it. Thus, although watching television may have reduced the need for reading books in some minor topics, it has not diminished the importance of reading books for the most cases.
