I have doubt about meaning of this sentence:

"Food choices in developed nations are very costly in terms of the environment".

Thanks in advance.

As you have now changed the topic title and your request it seems that you realise that you didn't want the sentence translated at all. You wanted it explained.

The variety of foods available in any season in developed countries is vast. In order to provide this wide choice, foods are imported by plane from right across the world. The increase in the number of fright plane journeys affects the environment.

Please explain me why don't use the article 'the' in this sentence:
"Food choices in developed nations are very costly in terms of the environment".

"The Food choices in the developed nations are very costly in terms of the environment".

Thanks,
