Hi Elga,

You might be interested to know that settlement apart from meaning a small village community can also mean an agreement, usually financial, to end a disagreement or dispute. Back to the community again - settlers are what we call people who have come to live in the village.

Expedition = an organized group of people undertaking a journey for a particular purpose.

You can apply it in a sentence like this:

An archeological expedition was organized to investigate the remains of the ancient settlement, which had recently been found near the capital.
