Learning foreign language in your own country vs the country where it is spoken. #1 (permalink) Wed Oct 20, 2010 15:11 pm   Learning foreign language in your own country vs the country where it is spoken.

Language is a complex skill to remember and articulate words, which make meaningful sentences. Throughout the entire world, there are several thousands of languages being spoken today. As man has learnt to travel long distance and interact with peoples of other countries and continents, learning foreign languages seems to be important. According to me learning a foreign language in the country in which it is spoken is better than learning it in their own country.

First, we get adequate opportunity to meet people who speak that foreign language fluently. We tend to copy the accent and the most relevant words which are in common usage. For example, I have been to Punjab which is in northern India for about six months for a short term course. People over there speak Punjabi language. I never took pains to learn the language. Gradually I started to understand Punjabi language as people around me speak it very often.

Second, The accent of any language changes varies from place to place and time to time. For example take English, The way English was spoken in Shakespearean era was very different from, what we speak now. It varies spatially too, like British English is different from American English. So learning English from India will never help me to follow the American accent.

However, it is practically not suitable for one to go to the foreign country to learn that language. For example a multi-linguist should master himself in different languages; he needs to learn more than two or three languages at a time. Obviously he cannot be in all the three countries to learn them. So for most cases learning the foreign language in their own country may be a suitable option.

In short, Learning foreign language in foreign country has many advantages like passive learning, accent training, acquiring the skill intuitively and so many. While some persons can't afford this facility, it is not bad to learn them in their own country. Accounting to so many merits, I feel learning foreign language in the foreign land is a better option.

It was too easy for you Ram, and so your over-confidence brought forth silly errors.
You must maintain your concentration from beginning to end.
