Hello Kitosdad. Thanks for reviewing my essay in advance.
In some countries, people are no longer allowed to smoke in many public places and office buildings. Do you think this is a good rule or a bad rule? Use specific reasons and details to support your position.
While banning smoking in public places and office buildings is a controversial issue in many countries, I personally think that a prohibition on smoking in public places, such as buses or workplaces can be a good practice/idea to improve people’s health and influence employees' work performance. My reasons and examples listed below will strengthen my point of view.
In the first place, smoking is highly addictive. Those people who smoke need to smoke on a regular basis; therefore, this can lead to a lack of performance and productivity. For example, consider an employee who needs to smoke every half an hour. His work will be interrupted all the time to allow him time to saisfy his craving to smoke, which in turn lowers attentiveness and increases inefficiency and errors in his work. Furthermore, smoking can arouse resentments by non-smokers towards smokers over the amount of time they spend on leaving their desks for a cigarette and taking frequent breaks.
Secondly, not only will smoking harm the smokers’ health, it will also affect non-smokers. Lighting cigarettes in public places will increase the dangers of passive-smoking, meaning that non-smokers have to inhale smoke from smokers’ cigarettes. As a result, it can increase the chances of their getting lung cancer, heart disease, coughs, sore throats, etc. To put the discussion into a wider context, consider an employee who is allergic to smoking and due to that he either has to quit his job or place his life in danger, which is totally unfair. To overcome this problem, the only possible solution is to prohibit smoking in public areas.
To put all in a nutshell, based on the discussion mentioned above, I totally support the action of banning or restricting smoking in public areas, since it can reduce the risks of non-smokers contracting serious smoking related diseases /for both smokers and non-smokers,/ eliminate conflicts in the workplace, and increase workers’ productivity. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: As usual, perfect Leenda, so I decided to spoilt it again.
