Hi, Why in this case wander does not come with the preposition "about"?

Hi Elga,
"Wander" itself means to move about aimlessly and it does not necessarily need the preposition "about' since the meaning of the preposition is in the very verb. So, you can use WANDER/ WANDER ABOUT without change in meaning.

Dear teachers
I read these in previous explanations:

Quote:
"The verb “wander” means to move from place to place without a fixed route. "

Quote:
'Wander' is again walk without any destination in mind but the emphasis is not on the way you walk but on the fact that you are probably lost or not sure where you are going.

then why it is wandering in the mountains and not striding as we normally have a destination when we go to the mountains and we walk in a particular direction...

'Striding' in mountains is hardly possible due to the fact that:
"To stride" means "To walk with long steps, especially in a hasty or vigorous way"

Plus, if you were striding, English 1st language speakers would say on the mountains, rather than in them.
