"I could care less" -- what is this mystery? #1 (permalink) Thu Oct 28, 2010 13:01 pm   "I could care less" -- what is this mystery?

I recently came across an article (http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/ideas/articles/2010/10/24/i_could_care_less/?page=full)
on usage of "I could care less"

The article suggests that both of these mean the same --

"I could care less"

"I couldn't care less"

Can someone please shed some light on --

What does this sentence mean?

Why these apparently different sentences mean the same?

Ha, good question.
As far as I know, some people (mostly Americans) say "I could care less" when they obviously mean "I couldn't care less."

So, they are both used...but only one of them actually makes sense.

Hi,

The reason as I see it is that 'I could care less' is meant in a sarcastic way - you could say this where the underlying meaning is 'as if I could care less'.

Hi,

It is still not clear to me :(
Can we have some (conversation) examples to demonstrate the actual usage?

Thank you so much ThredderAlan for quickly replying to this topic.
